LAHORE: The head coaches of the six Cricket Associations have finalized for the Second XI teams for the three-day non-first-class Quaid-e-Azam trophy, which starts from October 18 in Karachi.
A Pakistan Cricket Council spokesman said on Monday that Zain Abbas was leading defending champions Southern Punjab, who were launching their campaign against Umair Masood-led Northern.
The spokesman said, “Azeem Ghumman is the captain of Balochistan, while central Punjab and Sindh are led by Mohammad Saad and Saifullah Bangash”.
Mehran Ibrahim, who took over the captaincy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after joining Khushdil Shah’s national team for the Australian Tour last season, will continue in the role, he added.
“The six teams gathered in a local hotel in Karachi for the competition, which will be played on a double league basis in four places – KCCA Stadium, NBP Sports Complex, State Bank Stadium and TMC Cricket Ground. They start their preparations from Tuesday at the three venues hosting the first round matches.
“The players who participate in the National T20 Cup, which is played in Rawalpindi, will join Karachi after the tournament. Meanwhile, the teams can request their substitutes for the first round,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, players and player support staff, who have moved from the bio-safe bubble in Lahore or became part of their group for the first time this season, have undergone Covid-19 tests and negative results have been integrated into the bio-safe bubble.
In accordance with the COVID-1 protocols announced at the start of the season, all matches will be played behind closed doors.
For the sake of the health and safety of the respected members of the media and due to limited resources and facilities, on-field coverage will not be allowed. The Pakistan Cricket Board offers daily rounds in both English and Urdu.
