Meta officially launched Threads social media application is in the market to compete with billionaire Elon Musk’s Twitter.
The social media network allows people to come together and discuss everything “they care about today to what will be trending tomorrow”.
The Twitterverse is divided over the app’s logo supposedly a white “@” symbol set against a black background. Or is it an ear? A tangled thread? A Tamil symbol?
The logos of social apps have discernible design. The Instagram logo depicts a camera, Twitter’s is a bird and TikTok’s is a musical note. Facebook, LinkedIn, BeReal all chose the simplicity of a letter or a straightforward mark.
Many internet users have pointed out that the logo of the application is very similar to the Dravidian languages Tamil and Malayalam.
Several users have claimed it was inspired by the letter “Ku” of the Tamil alphabet, while others stated that it was similar to the Malayalam letters “Thr” and “Kra.” However, a section of people on the internet argued that it also represented the Hindu syllable “Om”.
“It looks like spaghetti that stuck to the wall,” one person wrote. “I like that they used a tapeworm as the threads logo,” another said.
Someone said the Threads logo captures exactly how it feels to be on the new app, which is to say a little confusing. Other smelled a conspiracy and said the Simpson predicted the logo.
Is it me or does anyone feel that the logo of the upcoming Threads app appears like the 90-degree clock-wise rotation of the Malayalam letter ത്ര (pronounced as ‘thra’) rhyming with ‘thr’ in Threads. #Threads #ThreadsApp #Meta pic.twitter.com/PbfbQZu73l

#Threads‘ logo looks like a twisted version of Om in Odia pic.twitter.com/7wLnn9RNON

The Threads logo is not meant to be a thread or an @
But an ear
