Actress Yumna Zaidi has recently spoken about the Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi drama and highlighted how can we only make dramas based on typical stories and not on social topics.
She was recently invited to a talk show where she expressed her frustration over the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority that how it issued a notice against the drama ‘Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi’ where she is playing a protagonist role.
She expressed disappointment that she is unable to understand the reason behind issuing the notice and complaints of viewers against a serial that only portrays the reality. “The issues raised in Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi should be talked about,” said the actress by adding that she does not understand how PEMRA can issue a notice against the show’s content.
According to Zaidi, the alarming problems shown in the drama are the problems that occur regularly in government schools, colleges, small neighbourhoods, and villages. “When we don’t raise awareness about these social evils and tackle them in our dramas, we will hear about them in the news,” she said by adding that those stories will be real.
About contributing to the prevention of horrific incidents such as child abuse and human trafficking, Zaidi asserted, “When we have raised an issue, at least let us complete our story. How can anyone decide the content is obscene when we haven’t even shown anything yet? How can we only make dramas based on typical stories like ‘sas bahu’?”
