The Sui gas authorities appear to have discovered a new way to increase their revenue because they only provide a subsidy for usage up to 0.9 cubic hectometers; once usage exceeds this threshold, the cost also increases dramatically.
The meter cost is Rs. 50, and the bill would be Rs500 if a user uses up to 0.9hm3 of gas every month. However, the meter fee increases to Rs500 once the gas utility exceeds 1hm3, and the bill reaches thousands of rupees.
Customers who used more than 0.9 hm3 of gas per month during peak hours from November to February will now be required to pay Rs 500 in meter rent per month on top of their inflated bills.
Not only this, they will also have to pay an additional amount in terms of the arrears accumulated from November to February.
The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited claims it has increased the tariff on the orders of the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority.
Gas is supplied to hotels, tandoors and places of worship at a set price. Gas is provided by the department for 10 to 12 hours per set timetable.
