LAHORE: A smog-free tower, developed by the Environmental Protection Department and NUST, has been installed in Lahore to tackle the growing issue of air pollution in the city.
The tower has been set up in the Mahmood Booti area and will be fully operational by December 21 after the completion of the installation and calibration process.
The smog clean tower can filter toxic particles from the air and will play a significant role in reducing air pollution in the provincial capital.
Senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, while describing this initiative as a revolutionary step towards environmental protection, said that the use of modern technology is the need of the hour to control a serious problem like smog.
This tower will prove to be a model not only for Lahore but also for the entire country.
The government is committed to taking all possible measures to address environmental challenges, she said, adding that six brick kilns running without zigzag technology in Bhakkar, one each in Gujrat, Khanewal, and Multan were demolished.
Whereas, six industrial units in Lahore were sealed following their failure to follow smog SOPs.
