The trailer for Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, was released online on Tuesday evening. Unlike his gentle and empathetic role in Taare Zameen Par, Aamir portrays a character who seems to be his polar opposite, as reported by Indian media.
According to details, Aamir Khan’s new role, Gulshan, is an aggressive, volatile man who even drives under the influence. After a run-in with the law, he is tasked with coaching a basketball team composed of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Promoted as a “heartwarming family entertainer,” the trailer suggests the film challenges conventional notions of normalcy. Aamir’s character, who repeatedly refers to his team as “pagal,” appears to be on a journey of transformation and redemption.
Despite the team being called “Sitaare,” the narrative primarily seems to center on Gulshan’s personal growth, shaped by the experiences he shares with them. The film also features Genelia Deshmukh, Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, and Brijendra Kala. Genelia plays Aamir’s romantic interest.
In a recent conversation with one of his Chinese fan clubs, Aamir described Gulshan as a “very rude” basketball coach. “Unlike my character Nikumbh in Taare Zameen Par, who was sensitive and kind, Gulshan is his complete opposite. He’s politically incorrect, harsh, and lashes out at everyone—his wife, mother, even his senior coach,” Aamir shared, adding that Gulshan is someone battling deep personal issues.
Aamir has previously played a coach in Dangal, one of his biggest box-office hits. Sitaare Zameen Par also marks his return to the big screen after the 2022 flop Laal Singh Chaddha, the Indian remake of Forrest Gump. Following the film’s failure, Aamir had announced a break from acting—but he soon returned to the industry.
