KARACHI: Sindh government has decided to register a protest with the federal government over the increase in electricity tariff and overbilling.
As per sources, CM Syed Murad will write a letter to the federal government to appraise it from the reservations of the masses over an increase in tariff and the complaints of overbilling.
Earlier this month, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had approved a price hike in K-Electric tariffs.
A statement issued by the Finance Ministry at the time had said that the increase in tariff was announced as per recommendations forwarded by the ECC and approved with the instructions that the same would be effective after the passage of three months.
The prince hike will bring the K-Electric tariff on a par with other power distribution companies.
The Karachi Electric Supply Company is once again the subject of severe public criticism as the power-generating body continues to irk masses with unannounced spells of load shedding for long hours in different parts of the metropolis.
K-Electric authorities have launched its load-shedding for hours in the city causing great hardships to the citizens even in the hot days.
Citizens complained that they were already bound to remain indoor due to COVID-19 spreading while temperature had now been increased as a result they were facing hardships indoor without power.
The frequent power breakdowns have also deprived many water supplies which propelled residents in a number of areas to stage violent protests.
