The Sindh government has announced plans to introduce electric taxis in the province, Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed on Thursday.
On Thursday, Minister Sharjeel Memon held a meeting with representatives from Chinese automobile manufacturer GAC and Dewan Motors. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Dewan Yousif Farooqui, Chu Song from GAC, Chen Wen, Zafar Hassan, and other officials.
During the meeting, Chu Song, General Manager of GAC, provided an in-depth briefing on electric vehicles. Various options for launching electric taxis in Sindh were discussed, and Minister Memon expressed full support for the Chinese company’s investment.
He assured that the Sindh government will offer all necessary infrastructure and facilities for the electric taxi project, including the installation of charging stations, streamlining the regulatory process, and fostering a business-friendly environment for investors.
The minister emphasized that electric taxis will provide modern and safe travel options while contributing to environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions. The initiative will also generate new employment opportunities.
Memon also announced the launch of a Pink Taxi service, specifically designed to offer safe and reliable transportation for women. The Sindh government aims to roll out these eco-friendly electric taxis as soon as possible, ensuring citizens can benefit from sustainable travel solutions.
