KARACHI: The Sindh government, on Monday, announced a public holiday in the province on December 25 on account of the birth of Pakistan’s founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and to mark the festivities of Christmas.
Services, General Administration and Coordination Department of Sindh government has issued an official notification in this regard on Monday evening.
According to the notification, a public holiday will be observed throughout the province of Sindh, “except essential service and those engaged in COVID-19 emergency vaccination duties.”
The festivals of minorities are celebrated officially by the government to promote inter-faith harmony in the country. The 2.2 billion Christians around the world celebrate December 25 as the birthday of Prophet Jesus.
The population of Pakistan, Christians included, celebrate December 25 as the birth-date of the man who grew up to found the nation. It is a cause for double celebrations each year.
The holiday has been announced for all offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils that fall under the jurisdiction of the provincial government, excluding essential services.
