KARACHI: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Law and Environment, Murtaza Wahab has said that the Sindh province ensured the fundamental rights of prisoners and seeks to make them useful members of the society.
On a social media website Twitter, Wahab said, “Sindh is the only province in Pakistan which ensures the fundamental rights to prisoners and seeks to correct them, teach them vocational skills so that they can financially survive once out of jail.”

He further said, “Sindh Prisons and Correctional Facilities Act 2019 ensure all of this”. It is pertinent to mention here more than 250 prisoners and nine officials had been detected with COVID-19 on May 19.
In this regard, Sindh Prisons’ department issued directives for the special arrangements for the protection of all prisoners.
Following the orders, the jail superintendent made arrangements for coronavirus detection tests and social distancing measures. On June 14, 274 prisoners infected with coronavirus had recovered at Karachi Central Jail, authorities had confirmed.
According to the senior superintendent of the Karachi Central Jail, Hassan Sahito, almost 894 prisoners and 11 staffers of the Karachi Central Jail were infected with the coronavirus.
“At least 120 inmates were declared critical,” he added. The police officer further said, “Almost 90 critical patients have recovered from the coronavirus, taking the tally to 274.”
