In a bid to empower women and enhance their mobility, the Sindh cabinet has approved a scheme to provide free pink electric scooters to eligible female citizens.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that women holding a two-wheeler driving license will qualify for the initiative. The scooters will be distributed through a monthly lottery system, ensuring fair allocation.
The scheme is open to both female students and working women. For those unfamiliar with riding motorcycles, the government will arrange training sessions with female instructors to equip them with the necessary skills. Additionally, to prevent resale, recipients will not be allowed to sell the electric bikes for seven years.
Alongside this initiative, the Sindh government has also sanctioned the purchase of double-decker buses and additional electric buses to improve public transport in Karachi.
Memon also criticized the federal government for failing to fulfill its commitment to provide 180 electric buses, a promise made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He stated that despite assurances, no funds were allocated for the project.
Responding to MQM leader Farooq Sattar’s criticism of the PPP-led Sindh government, Memon dismissed his remarks, asserting that Sattar and his party are no longer politically relevant.
