The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Friday, November 1 for the Hindu community to celebrate Diwali in the province.
The Sindh government declares a public holiday every year for Hindu employees and workers during Diwali, and advance salaries are also provided to Hindu employees.
The Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department has issued a notification for the Diwali holiday.
Hindu community employees will take Friday off, and the holiday will also apply to government, semi-government institutions, and authorized authorities.
Hinduism is the second-largest religion in Sindh, numbering 4.9 million people and comprising 8.8 percent of the province’s population in the 2023 Pakistani census. Sindh has the largest population and the highest percentage of Hindus in Pakistan.
An overwhelming majority of Hindus (96 percent of the total Hindu population in Pakistan) live in rural areas of Sindh. Heavy papulation of Hindus is in the Sanghar and Tharpakar districts, which border with India. There are also small pockets of Hindus in interior Baluchistan and Punjab.
