KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared the initiation of a crackdown on unregistered vehicles throughout the province, commencing on Monday, February 17.
During a press conference held on Saturday, Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that unregistered vehicles will be confiscated starting Monday. He also instructed showroom owners to refrain from removing any vehicle from their premises without proper registration.
In addition, the government has resolved to address the issue of physically unfit vehicles in Sindh. He stated that a mandatory motor vehicle inspection will be implemented for heavy vehicles, including dumpers, trucks, buses, and trailers.
Moreover, the Sindh government plans to establish four motor vehicle inspection centers in Karachi.
Previously, the provincial government had eased the restrictions on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city, seemingly in response to pressure from influential transport associations.
The government, by extending the ban by one hour, has asserted that this decision was made to benefit both the public and transport operators.
