According to Indian media, Bollywood’s ‘item songs’ have always received mixed reactions from the audience. While some artists take pride in their work, Shreya Ghoshal has a different approach. She recently admitted that she feels embarrassed about Chikni Chameli (Agneepath, 2012), featuring Katrina Kaif.

Shreya Ghoshal expressed her thoughts in an interview. When asked about how she feels about singing such songs, she said, “I have a handful of songs that could be borderline raunchy, like Chikni Chameli. There is a very fine line between being sensual and sexy or just being objectified.”

“Why I have become more conscious about this over time is because I see young little girls singing this song. They don’t know what it means; it’s a fun song, and they are dancing to it. They come and say, ‘I love your music, can I sing this in front of you?’ And then, I feel very embarrassed,” she stated.
The singer went on to say, “A little girl who is hardly 5-6 years old sings this, and it doesn’t seem appropriate or sound good. I don’t want that, so I have become more conscious about it. It isn’t wrong to confidently express how sexy I am, but don’t write it in such a way. Maybe, if a woman were writing it, she would have phrased it more gracefully. It’s just a matter of perspective.”
