Saudi Arabia condemns attack on Imran Khan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Thursday strongly condemned the attack on former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the attempted assassination of Former #Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.”

Pemra bans channels from airing Asad Umar’s statement over Imran attack

The Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has banned news channels from airing PTI leader Asad Umar’s video in which he said former Prime Minister Imran Khan believed three suspects were behind the attack on PTI long march in Wazirabad today.

In a notification, the media watchdog said: “Broadcasting of such content is likely to create hatred among the people or is prejudicial to maintenance of law and order or is likely to disturb public peace and tranquility or endangers national security is a serious violation of Article 19 of the Constitution and Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as well as Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.”

It went on to say that investigation of the attack on the PTI chief was underway and “prior to the completion of investigation such kind of statement of a senior PTI leader circulated on social media may prejudice the investigation and inquiry at this stage”.

Subsequently, the statement added Pemra “hereby prohibits broadcast and re-broadcast of such statements being circulated on social media by PTI leaders which are unsubstantiated, vilifying, and cast aspersions against state institutions, with immediate effect”.

United States denounces attack on Imran Khan’s life

The United States has also denounced the attack on former Prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

The White House issued a statement in this regard and said that the incident was condemnable, according to Khyber Agency.

Ali Zaidi claims there were multiple shooters

PTI leader Ali Haider Zaidi has claimed that there was not just “one shooter” behind the attack on party chairman Imran Khan.

He also said that if Faisal Vawda had information about the talk, he should be included in the first information report (FIR).

“Don’t try to deter us. It is going to be a shut down across the country.”

Punjab CM directs IG to form JIT

Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has instructed the police to form a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the attack on PTI’s convoy in Wazirabad today.

According to a press release, officials of the counter-terrorism department will be placed on the team to investigate the motives of the incident.

“We want to know who is behind the incident, who trained the accused, how much money was he given and where did he get it from,” the chief minister said.

Punjab CM suspends SHO, others over suspect’s leaked video

Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has taken notice of the leaked video statement of the suspect who allegedly made an attempt on Imran Khan.

The video of the suspect was leaked soon after he was arrested from the crime scene. As a result, the chief minister has suspended the SHO concerned as well as his entire staff and ordered strict disciplinary action against them.

Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) said Thursday that attack on Khan must be unequivocally condemned.

Through the official Twitter account, HRCP said “The attack on @ImranKhanPTI  must be unequivocally condemned. All political parties have the right to hold peaceful assemblies and to expect security from the state when doing so.”

Federal Govt asks Punjab to form JIT for probe into Imran attack

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Thursday said that federal government had decided to ask Punjab government to form a joint investigation team comprising senior officers to probe into assassination attempt on former Prime Minster Imran Khan.

Sanaullah, in a press conference alongside Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in Islamabad, said the entire government condemned the firing incident.

He said the federal government has assured the Punjab government of “assistance of any kind” during the investigation.

Meanwhile, PTI reporters staged a protest outside the residence of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. The demonstrators chanted slogans against the incumbent government.

People stage protest in front of Peshawar corps commander’s residence

A number of PTI supporters on Thursday protested outside the resident of Peshawar corps commander following an assassination attempt on former Prime minster Imran Khan during long march.

The demonstrators gathered and chanted slogans in front of the corps commander’s front door, according to Dawn News.

They marched toward the Chief Minister’s office later before splitting apart.

Imran has named three suspects behind today’s attack: Asad Umar

PTI leader Asad Umar, in a video message today, revealed that party chairman Imran Khan has named three suspects who could be behind today’s attack.

“Shortly before this video, Imran Khan called us and told us to convey this message to the nation on his behalf. He said that he had received some information earlier as well.

“He said that he believes three people were involved in the attack […] and those three people are Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah and Major General Faisal,” Umar said.

He also said that the PTI chief has demanded that Shehbaz, Sanaullah and Gen Faisal be immediately removed from their posts. “Otherwise, a protest will be held across the country.”

Canadian PM condemns attack on Imran Khan

Taking to twitter, the Canadian Prime Minister said “The attack on @ImranKhanPTI  and his supporters is completely unacceptable, and I strongly condemn this violence. It has no place in politics, in any democracy, or in our society. I’m wishing a speedy recovery to Imran and all who were injured today.”

‘Well-planned assassination attempt on Imran’: Fawad

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has said that the attack on Imran Khan was a “well-planned assassination attempt”.

“It was not 9mm [pistol], it was burst from an automatic weapon, no two opinions about that it was a narrow escape,” he tweeted.

Punjab police say 7 injured, 1 killed in attack during long march

In a statement, the Punjab police have confirmed that seven people were injured and a person was killed during the attack on PTI chairman Imran Khan’s container during the long march in Wazirabad.

It stated that the deceased has been identified as Muazzam Nawaz.

PTI leader Shireen Mazari has said that the “string pullers and the establishment will be held responsible by the nation for this murderous attack on Imran Khan”.

In a tweet after unknown assailants opened fire on Imran’s container in Wazirabad today, she called for Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to be arrested.

After a man opened fire at PTI chairman Imran Khan to injure him in Gujranwala, party leader Shahbaz Gill said that “Imran Khan is our red line and an attempt has been made to cross that red line.”

He also said that Khan will fight till his last breath.

Imran Khan sustained bullet injuries during assassination bid 

Former Prime Minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan has sustained bullet injuries during an assassination bid after an unknown gunman opened fire at former premier’s container near the Allahwala Chowk in Wazirabad on Thursday.

According to local media, Imran sustained bullet injuries on his leg. According to the police, the suspect who opened fire on Khan’s container has been arrested.

Several other people, including PTI leader Faisal Javed, also sustained injuries.

PTI’s Farrukh Habib has confirmed that Imran Khan has been injured in firing near his container in Wazirabad.

Footages run on several television channels showed Imran being moved from the container to another vehicle with the help of other people present on the site. It also shows a bandage tied around the PTI’s chief leg.

A reported assassin who opened fired at Imran Khan in the long march.

Moreover, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry also confirmed that Imran Khan was shot in the leg in a targeted attack during the long march in Wazirabad today.

In an interview with Aaj TV immediately after the incident, he said that three people were injured in the attack, including Senator Faisal Javed and Ahmad Chattha.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has taken notice of the firing incident near PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s container in Wazirabad and instructed the provincial IGP to submit a report after thorough investigation.

“Those behind this incident will be brought to justice soon and the injured will be provided the best medical care,” the chief minister said.
