New details have emerged about the person killed by a mob in Madyan, Swat, over allegations of desecrating Holy Quran. The family of the alleged blasphemer has disassociated themselves from the deceased and his alleged actions.
According to the report, the deceased, Ismail, was a resident of Sialkot. He was about 40 years old and, according to the police, had been living alone in a hotel in Madyan since June 18.
Swat’s District Police Officer, Dr. Zahidullah, told the private channel Aaj News that Ismail’s mother had issued a video statement to the police in which she disowned her son. The deceased’s mother said that a significant portion of Ismail’s life was spent in Malaysia. She mentioned that his father had died 30 years ago, and he was in Malaysia at the time. When he returned, they got him married. He continued to fight with them and left about one and a half years ago.
The Swat police also have a copy of an FIR filed at the Sialkot City police station in July 2022. The FIR, filed by the mother, claimed that her son had attacked his brother and her with an iron rod and the butt of a pistol. The 2022 FIR also stated that the accused was a drug addict and threatened family members.
The family provided the police with a newspaper clipping containing a notice of disinheritance. In this notice, the mother disassociated herself from him. In the video, she is heard saying, “We are Sunnis. We are Muslims. We do not engage in any wrong activities. We have no relation with him. Whatever he did or did not do, our relationship with him ended.” According to the police, the accused had divorced his wife.
