PESHAWAR: Station Housing Officer (SHO) of Shahpur police station, Shakeel Khan, was martyred after unknown assailants attacked his vehicle in Chamkani, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
According to Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), the police official was alone in his car and on his way home from the police station when his car was chased by the attackers.
The CCPO added that the attackers were travelling in a white coloured car and were carrying guns and other ammunition. He said this was a continuation of attacks in which personnel of law enforcement agencies have been targeted in the city.
In February this year, four policemen lost their lives in two separate attacks in K-P and Balochistan provinces in a single day.
In Quetta, three policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were martyred when miscreants opened fire at a police mobile near Eastern Bypass.
Police said that the vehicle was on patrol as per its daily routine when it came under attack, as a result an ASI and constable died on the spot. One policeman was left seriously injured who was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In recent months, attacks on police have increased manifold in the province, including the tribal districts. Police constables on polio security duty have been targeted in DI Khan, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Bannu, Charsadda, Bajaur and North Waziristan.
