ISLAMABAD: Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed has announced to run special shuttle train to rescue people from various rain-hit Balochistan areas.
The decision came after the provincial government Liaquat Shahwani appealed to the railway authorities to run special trains to rescuing people from rain-hit areas.
The provincial spokesperson informed that a bridge collapsed at N-65 highway connecting Quetta and Jacobabad, and helicopters were used to rescue the trapped people.
The federal minister announced that the first shuttle train will run from Quetta at 10:00 am to Sibi and will leave for Quetta on the same day at 4:00 pm.
He pointed out that the road network was damaged badly in the recent torrential rain. “The passengers are facing difficulty in commuting between Quetta and Sibi. A large number of people are stranded at the Sibi railway station,” he added.
The Railways minister has directed the deputy superintendent at the Sibi Railway station to ensure safe transporting facility for the passengers. “The shuttle train will continue unless the road infrastructure in the province improved,” he added.
At least eight people have been killed and 17 others injured after monsoon rain wreaked havoc in Balochistan province. Over 300 villages in Balochistan is facing a flood-like situation due to the rains.
