LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif was on Thursday shifted to a hospital after his health worsened.
The PML-N leader was moved to INMOL Cancer Hospital amid tight security after his health deteriorated where he will undergo a PET scan. The Punjab health department has formed a medical board to examine him. The board comprising six government doctors was constituted on the direction of the accountability court.
Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS) Prof Khalid Mahmood is heading the board also comprising Prof Saeed Ahmed, Prof Saima Ameer, Prof Rana Adil, Prof Khadija, and Dr Abbas Khokhar as members.
The board will examine Shehbaz’s health and submit a report in this regard to the health department. It can also receive medical advice from his personal physician about his health.
Shehbaz Sharif is currently imprisoned at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in different corruption cases, money laundering, and owning more assets than known sources of income.
Earlier, the accountability court in Lahore issued a written order regarding the formation of a medical board to examine PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif. It directed the government to include Sharif’s personal physicians including Arif Khan, Professor Aqeel Bari and Professor Tahir on the medical board.
Judge Jawad-ul-Hassan noted in the order that the accused is a patient of brain tumour and cancer and his legal right to received medical assistance could not be neglected.
