ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly witnessed a ruckus once again on Wednesday resulting in Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif being unable to deliver his speech on the federal budget for the third time.
The PML-N president was unable to finish his speech on the third day of the post-budget session as members of the treasury and opposition created chaos and continued to chant slogans during the proceedings of the Lower House.
Shehbaz Sharif was surrounded by sergeants as he began his speech. However, a rumpus erupted as hand sanitizer bottles were thrown from opposition benches which hit MNA Akram Cheema.
NA Speaker Asad Qaiser repeatedly called on the parliamentarians to be seated but adjourned the session after an object was thrown at the speaker’s dais. He ordered for whoever had thrown the object to be escorted from the House and said action would be taken against him.
However, Sharif was able to speak for only a few minutes before the NA Speaker Asad Qaiser suspended the proceedings until tomorrow.
Fedderal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar claimed in a tweet that the opposition had “attacked” within minutes of the session’s start.
He added that PTI lawmaker Muhammad Akram Cheema was also injured by a bottle thrown at him. “Worried by the economic improvement and popular budget, the opposition wants to run away from discussion on the budget in the House by engaging in confrontation.”
During his speech, Shehbaz Sharif condemned yesterday’s incident and said it was the speaker’s duty to maintain decorum in the House and run it in accordance with the law.
He said that the speaker had failed to keep the treasury members in check over the last two days. He alleged that the behaviour of treasury members was endorsed by Prime Minister Imran Khan himself.
Earlier National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser today banned the entry of seven lawmakers into the Parliament House over the use of foul language during the budget speech of Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif.
The order released by Speaker NA stated that, on 14th and 15th June 2021 during the speech of the Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif on the budget 2021-22, the conduct of seven lawmakers was grossly disorderly as they violated the rules despite the directions by the chair.
The entry of seven lawmakers namely, MNA Ali Gohar Khan, Chaudhry Hamid Hameed, Sheikh Rohale Asghar, Faheem Khan, Abdul Majeed Khan, Ali Nawaz Awan and Syed Agha Rafiullah has been banned.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser to act as per law and constitution in a matter relating to rumpus during the session.
The speaker briefed the prime minister on the happenings during the National Assembly session that saw hand fists, hurling of the budget books and use of foul language during the speech of Shehbaz Sharif.
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed concern over the rumpus and directed him to act on the matter as per the law and constitution.
