ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Shaukat Tareen is likely to be made Prime Minister Imran Khan’s aide on finance and revenue, sources said on Wednesday.
According to sources, the final decision in this regard would be made by the premier himself. Earlier, Tareen was recommended to have Tareen contest the Senate election as well.
Tareen 68, who was the Finance Minister of Pakistan from 2009 to 2010 in former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani’s cabinet –is currently working as a member of the economic and finance committee in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
The government removed Hafeez Shaikh as finance minister on March 29. Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar was given an additional portfolio of the ministry.
Adviser on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh was made the finance minister back in December 2020. Prime Minister Imran Khan has completed consultations regarding the reshuffle in the federal cabinet.
On the other hand, Fawad Chaudhry is likely to be made Interior Minister in place of Sheikh Rashid, Sources said on Tuesday. Sources further said in today’s consultation, the Prime Minister decided to hand over the portfolio of Interior Ministry to Fawad Chaudhry currently has the portfolio of Science and Technology.
Sources said Fawad Chaudhry desired to have both the ministries, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Technology however, PM Imran rejected the idea.
