The Shalimar Express, traveling from Karachi to Lahore, met with an accident on Wednesday morning near Faisalabad in the suburban area of Darul Ehsan when it collided with a trailer, causing the engine and 12 coaches to derail.
According to details, the accident occurred at a railway crossing when the train collided with a trailer loaded with bricks. As a result of the collision, three coaches completely overturned while others were severely damaged.
Train number 27 Up Shalimar Express met with the accident while it was moving at full speed toward Lahore. Police and rescue teams immediately reached the scene and began relief operations. According to rescue officials, there was no loss of life in the accident; however, five people were injured, some of whom are in critical condition.
Railway officials stated that the affected track will be cleared within five to six hours, after which train services will be restored. Meanwhile, railway authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the accident, and according to the preliminary report, the trailer’s violation of railway rules caused the incident.
After the accident, the remaining coaches of the train are being separated and moved to a safe location, while arrangements are being made to send passengers to their destinations through alternative means.
