Former foreign minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi was moved from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on Saturday after he suffered chest pain.
According to his lawyer, Rana Muddasir, Qureshi is undergoing various medical tests at PIC to assess his condition. He added that the jail authorities have informed Qureshi’s family about his health and hospital transfer.
His sudden transfer to the hospital sparked concern among party workers and supporters. The PTI leader’s family had been informed about his condition, the lawyer added.
According to doctors at PIC, Qureshi is facing shortness of breath due to a lack of oxygen in his lungs. He is being treated at CCU 3.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been under custody in connection with cases linked to the May 9 events. He was shifted to Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore last year from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) completed its inquiry into several terrorism-related cases at Adiala Jail.
