The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that its Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been “arrested” by the Islamabad police in the early hours of Thursday and transferred to an “undisclosed location”.
A video shared by the party on Twitter shows plain-clothed men taking Qureshi away, with him waving at party workers before departing from the location where he was detained.
It should be noted that on Wednesday reports emerged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was detained. But later PTI leader Shireen Mazari refuted those claims.
Meanwhile, PTI has said party leader Fawad Chaudhry has been arrested outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad late on Wednesday.
The party’s statement said the arrest was carried out despite Chaudhry having been granted protective bail by the Islamabad High Court till May 12.
Moreover, in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, the administration dispatched the military in an effort to manage the deteriorating situation. A day after demonstrators broke into the corps commander’s Lahore home and tore down a gate at GHQ in Rawalpindi, the deployment took place.
The Islamabad police registered a number of cases against PTI supporters and detained more than 200 party supporters in the federal capital. In Rawalpindi, the police booked more than 1,500 PTI supporters and detained over 190 workers – 52 were sent to Adiala Jail after they were produced in an anti-terrorism court.
