Shab-e-Barat, the night of reverence, fervor, and divine blessings for Muslims, was observed across Pakistan last night- night between Thursday and Friday.
Faithful gathered at mosques, and houses after Isha to offer special prayers that continued till Fajr. Special prayers were offered for peace, prosperity, and development of the country and protection of oppressed Palestinians and Kashmiris.
Ulema and religious scholars in their sermons highlighted the true teachings of Islam while different gatherings and Mahafil-e-Naat were arranged to mark the holy night.
Some people visited graveyards where their loved ones were buried and prayed for the departed souls. Many people are observing a fast today in connection with Shab-e-Barat to seek the blessings of Allah, the Almighty. Acts of charity, such as distributing food and money to the underprivileged, are also an integral part of the observance.
The houses, streets, and especially mosques were decorated with colorful pennants and buntings. Special security arrangements had been made for peaceful observance of the Shab-e-Barat throughout the country.
Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions are closed today to observe the day.
It should be noted that Shab-e-Barat is observed with great devotion across South Asia, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, as well as in Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
