CHAMAN: At least seven workers were killed after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning an underground tank in Chaman on Monday.
According to sources, one worker fell unconscious after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning an underground tank. Others rushed in to help him and also fell prey to the gas.
Police confirmed that an emergency had been declared at the hospital where the workers were taken to as the rescue operation began.
On June 14, four labourers were suffocated to death after a well they were digging suddenly collapsed in Rarko village of Mithi Nangarparkar tehsil in Tharparkar.
According to sources, 16-feet deep well suddenly collapsed. As a result, four labourers were suffocated to death. Sources further said the workers were digging the well in an agricultural field of a village resident to prepare it for tilling.
After the incident, the local administration had recovered their bodies with the help of cranes. Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Dr Shehzad Tahir Thahim had said the well was moist because of which it collapsed during digging.
The victims belonged to the Kohli community and were identified as Jalo Mill, Wankji, Mahasangh and Karman.
A prompt rescue operation was launched however, it took time for the machines to arrive, Tahir Thahim added. The deputy commissioner further said the village was also very far from the city due to which the workers died.
