KARACHI: Seven-day anti-polio campaign started in Karachi and will continue till the 16th of the month to administer vaccine drops to children.
According to the official at the National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday inaugurated the drive during which 2.3 million children below five years of age will be administered vaccine drops.
The Sindh Chief Minister on this occasion appealed the parents to support full cooperation with the health authorities to administer vaccine drops to children.
The drive carried in all six districts of Karachi and dates for the further campaigns in Karachi were moved up in light of the Pakistan Super League matches scheduled to take place in the metropolis.
The official added that several polio workers are participating in the campaign, going door-to-door to inoculate children under the age of five.
Polio affects the nervous system of children, causing paralysis and even death. Children under the age of five are most in danger of the disease. While there is no cure for the polio victims, regular vaccinations have proven to be effective in keeping kids polio-free
