The Punjab government has announced the closure of all government schools in the province on Sundays and Saturdays to lighten the workload on teachers.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that Saturdays would be dedicated to teachers’ training.
Minister Hayat emphasized that the weekend closure is part of a broader initiative aimed at easing the substantial burden on teachers in government schools. “Teachers in government schools are overburdened,” stated Rana Sikandar Hayat. “We have reduced their workload.”
Effective this week, the teaching schedule in Punjab’s government schools will now run from Monday to Friday. Saturdays will be exclusively reserved for training sessions for teachers, providing them with an opportunity to enhance their teaching skills and methodologies without the demands of regular classes.
Furthermore, the minister disclosed plans to extend the operating hours of government schools, although specific details regarding this adjustment have yet to be unveiled.
It should be noted that some private schools in the province already remain closed on Saturdays.
