KARACHI: The Supreme Court has ordered the demolition of the high-rise building Nasla Tower located on Karachi’s Shahrah-e Quaideen.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Thursday resumed hearing on petitions against the encroachments on Shahrah-e-Faisal and Sharah-e-Quaideen at the Karachi Registry.
The top judge asked Karachi commissioner about the 11-storey residential project while hearing a petition against encroachments in Karachi. The commissioner remarked that the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has stated that the building has not been constructed on any encroachment.
The chief justice expressed his displeasure over the commissioner’s remarks. “Don’t talk about the SBCA in front of us,” the judge said. “They are responsible for all illegal constructions in Karachi. There is no vacant land in PECHS. Where did this land come from?”
The advocate general said that one portion of the building is illegal and should be demolished. The SBCA DG said that the land was available after the re-allotment of the road. Justice Ijazul Ahsan asked who approved the lease on this land.
The Justice Ahmed remarked that the builder is missing and never comes to the court but has convinced the authorities to make a report in his favour. Nasla Tower is located at the intersection of Sharah-e-Faisal and Sharah-e-Quaideen.
