KARACHI: A building inspector the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has been exposed while demanding a bribe of Rs2.5 million from a builder.
SBCA North Karachi building inspector Amir Hussain conducted an operation against a three-storey building located in Sector 11-B of the area. The inspector reached the site with staff and police but without the demolition letter from the SBCA Director General.
The building owner showed the legal documents, approved map and building plan to the inspector. However, the inspector refused to accept and demanded a bribe of Rs2.5 million which the owner refused.
The owner claimed that the building was legal and was a commercial plot. He asked the inspector to show the demolition letter which he was unable to produce. This created a scuffle between the area resident and the inspector after which the SBCA retreated from the area.
Area residents said the building inspector was taking advantage of the owner despite having all legal documents. They said the owner has already paid bribes worth Rs4 million and now the inspector was demanding Rs2.5 million.
SBCA North Karachi building inspector Amir Hussain could not be reached for comment and did not attend repetitive calls.
