The Lahore High Court on Monday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed in a case pertaining to the alleged uploading and dissemination of anti-state content on social media platforms.
Justice Farooq Haider presided over the hearing of the bail application following Sanam Javed’s recent arrest by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The court approved her release on bail against surety bonds worth Rs 500,000.
Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, representing Sanam Javed, argued before the bench that his client had not posted or promoted any content that could be deemed anti-state. He maintained that the case registered by the FIA lacked substantial evidence and was politically motivated.
The petition contended that Sanam Javed was being targeted for her political affiliation and active participation in peaceful political activities. The defense also emphasized that her arrest was a violation of constitutional rights, particularly freedom of speech and expression.
On the other hand, FIA Lahore opposed the bail plea and requested the court to reject the application, citing the seriousness of the allegations involving national security concerns and cyber laws.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found the grounds for detention insufficient at this stage and granted bail, directing the authorities to release Sanam Javed immediately, provided the surety amount is submitted.
