England’s wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings has showered glowing praise on Pakistan’s batting maestro, Babar Azam, calling him the “King” ahead of the star’s much-anticipated debut in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season 15.
Speaking to the tournament’s official platform, Billings couldn’t hide his admiration for the right-handed top-order batter, highlighting the positive impact Babar’s presence will bring to both the Sydney Sixers and the BBL overall.
“He is King Babar Azam, as they call him,” said Billings. “He’s been a consistent, world-class performer for years. Any league that includes Babar is instantly elevated—not just for the franchise but for the competition as a whole.”
The English cricketer added that having played against Babar several times, he knows just how dangerous the Pakistani captain can be.
“I’ve faced him often and believe me, I’d much rather have him on my side than the opposition’s,” he remarked. “I’m really looking forward to those intense Sydney derbies this season.”
Babar Azam, who was recently signed by the Sydney Sixers in what the franchise described as “one of the biggest signings in BBL history,” also expressed his excitement at finally stepping into the Australian T20 league.
“I’m honoured to join the Sydney Sixers for this season,” Babar said after the announcement. “It’s a huge opportunity to play in one of the best T20 leagues in the world and to be part of a team with such a rich legacy.”
