KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have shot dead two terrorists associated with a proscribed group in Karachi who were allegedly involved in a recent blast in Saddar.
According to CTD in-charge Mazhar Mashwani, intelligence agencies and law enforcement conducted a joint operation in Maripur area of Karachi in the wee hours of Wednesday The terrorists opened fire after seeing the presence of security agencies.
The law enforcement agencies returned the fire due to which two terrorists were killed, while their accomplice fled the scene. The killed terrorists were identified as Allah Dino and Nawab and belonged to a banned organization.
According to reports, the main accused in the blast along with his accomplice was killed during a joint operation of intelligence agencies and CTD in Mauripur.
According to police officials, one kilogram of explosives, bomb-making equipment, ball bearings, and electronic devices were recovered from the bag recovered from the terrorists. Mashwani further said that the killed terrorists were allegedly involved in Saddar bomb blast.
The incident occurred on May 12 when one passerby was killed and at least nine were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a motorbike went off in a busy area of Saddar.
The blast took place in the commercial locality of Saddar, which remains crowded at night because of the presence of restaurants and eateries on Daud Pota Road.
The explosion caused substantive damage to property including vehicles in the area. A vehicle belonging to the Pakistan Coast Guards was also damaged in the explosion.
