ISLAMABAD: A ruckus in the session of the National Assembly (NA) on the second consecutive day as the opposition did not allowing the lower house to follow its plan for the day and stage a walkout.
The opposition staged a protest during the speech of Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan. Members of the opposition parties gathered around the rostrum of deputy speaker Qasim Suri and chanted slogans.
The reaction came after Omar Ayub’s remarked that previous governments were responsible for the state of the power sector and action against those responsible for electricity theft in Sindh was halted.
The opposition parties objected to the minister’s remarks and staged protest and chanted slogans over the remarks of the minister. Several opposition lawmakers were carrying while some hurled slogans urging the speaker to allow them to speak.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi responded to the opposition’s rumpus and said that the government will not allow the opposition to “bulldoze” the proceedings of the assembly.
He bashed the opposing parties for “defiling the sanctity of the parliament” and said the opposition is not ready to face criticism, warning that the government has shown “a lot of patience”.
Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said opposition parties are only worried about cases against them. Prime Minister Imran Khan wont give National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to any one at any cost and the thieves will be caught.
Minister for Communication Murad Saeed said that opposition leaders only give new deadlines for resignations to the prime minister but never act on them.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said that opposition is misleading the people with its bogus narrative He reminded the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) used to hurl allegations against each other.
The minister said that democracy cannot prevail when lawmakers become corrupt and public lands are being illegally occupied. The deputy tried to control over the rumpus but the opposition parties continued to protest.
