DADU: In a startling revelation, an audit report has uncovered that employees of the Sindh Education Department in Dadu district fraudulently obtained Rs70 million from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) during the fiscal year 2022–2023.
According to the audit, at least 314 government employees — including primary school teachers, watchmen, and sweepers — were found to have illegally received BISP payments by fraudulently enrolling their family members as beneficiaries under the federal social welfare scheme intended for low-income households.
Despite earlier efforts by the concerned authorities to recover the misappropriated funds, no compliance was shown after initial notices were issued to the accused individuals.
As a result, the Sindh Education Department has now re-issued formal notices to those involved, demanding immediate recovery of the embezzled amount.
BISP Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad confirmed that the fraudulent activities were traced back to employees of the Dadu District Education Department, and stressed that strict action will be taken against those who exploited a program designed to aid the most vulnerable segments of society.
The case has raised serious concerns about oversight, transparency, and internal accountability mechanisms within both the education sector and BISP disbursement channels.
Authorities are reportedly considering disciplinary and legal action against the individuals involved in the large-scale fraud.
