Islamabad: The Ministry of Interior has disclosed that over Rs1.35 billion were spent in the last five years to manage and prevent protests in Islamabad’s Red Zone.
According to official documents presented in the National Assembly during the Question Hour, Rs 157.7 million were spent in 2019-20, while the expenditure stood at Rs 96.1 million in 2020-21.
In 2021-22, the cost of controlling protests surged to Rs279.4 million, followed by a sharp rise in 2022-23, when Rs 724 million were spent.
The expenditure in 2023-24 was reported to be Rs 100 million.
The figures highlight the significant financial burden incurred by the government in maintaining law and order during demonstrations in the capital.
