In another alarming incident of street crime, four armed robbers looted Rs. 5.8 million from a trader near the mobile phone market in Karachi.
The trader was returning from a bank when he was targeted. The suspects fled towards Garden area after the robbery.
According to police, the trader, Muhammad Asif, had just withdrawn cash from a nearby bank and was heading to his shop when he was intercepted by two motorcycles carrying four armed men. An FIR has been registered at Preedy Police Station, but no arrests have been made so far.
President of the Karachi Electronics Dealers Association, Muhammad Rizwan Irfan, confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident has been recovered. He voiced serious concern over the rising number of robberies involving traders withdrawing cash from banks, stating that despite repeated incidents, police have failed to apprehend the culprits.
Rizwan Irfan urged the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Interior Minister, the IG Sindh, and the Additional IG Karachi to take immediate notice of the deteriorating law and order situation and provide effective security to electronic and mobile markets across the city.
He warned that if decisive action is not taken, the business community may be forced to shut down markets in protest.
