KARACHI: Criminals impersonating policemen have started robbing citizens under the pretext of snap-checking in several posh localities of Karachi.
The news has spread panic among citizens reeling from a sudden and unexpected rise in street crimes in recent weeks. According to reports, the imposters disguise themselves as police and started looting under the pretext of checking their vehicles in Defence Housing Authority, Clifton, and Sea View.
In this regard, CCTV footage of a robbery on Sea View came to light and clearly shows the criminals. The suspects placed a barricade and robbed a guest of a businessman who had come from London. A case has been registered in Darakhshan police station ad police have started searching for the suspects.
The suspects wear caps pretending to be police officers. They do not use uniforms or have police vans but carry out the incidents in plain clothes and in an ordinary vehicle. They also wear face masks to conceal their identity. The accused stop citizens allegedly for snap checking and ask them where they are headed and their identity cards. The criminals then deprive the victims of their money and valuable before making a run.
SHO Dararkshan police station said that the accused have carried out several incidents of looting in DHA, Clifton and Sea View. He said they have tightened their noose and will nab the suspects soon.
Citizens have been advised not to stop their car or open their car window down or even get out of the car. They should not show him or hand him NIC, driving license or car documents. They should also not allow the suspect to inspect the car or them physically. More importantly, they should not give any money or fine and not show their cellphone or wallet.
