LONDON: West Indies cricket team has arrived in England, ahead of their three-match Test series, as the game nears resumption amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the details, the West Indies squad reached England via Chartered plan from Antigua. The players along with team management will now spend 14 days in quarantine before getting into the ground for training.
Earlier, Cricket West Indies (CWI) had said that the team had departed for their tour of England on Monday after testing negative for coronavirus infection.
The West Indies cricket board further said, “Floyd Reifer will join the coaching staff as batting coach, Monty Desai, who is based in India and due to travel restrictions cannot join the team for this tour.”
West Indies’ skipper Jason Holder called this tour a ‘huge step’ towards reviving cricket. “This is a huge step forward in cricket and in sports in general,” said Holder. “A lot has gone into the preparations for what will be a new phase in the game,” he added.
It is worth mentioning here that England and West Indies will play the first international contest since Australia beat New Zealand behind closed doors in a one-day international at Sydney’s SCG on 13 March.
