Reports on price hikes of sugar, wheat released as promised: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed that inquiry reports into sudden price hikes of sugar and wheat have been released as promised.

PM Imran took to Twitter and said, “As promised, preliminary reports into sudden price hikes of sugar and wheat have been released without alteration and tampering,” adding, “This is unprecedented in the history of Pakistan.”

He further said, “Previous political leaderships because of their vested interests & compromises lacked the moral courage to order & release such reports.

In another tweet, PM Imran said, “I await the detailed forensic reports now by the high-powered commission, which will come out on 25 April, before taking action.”

“After these reports come out no powerful lobby will be able to profiteer at the expense of our public,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday, inquiry reports regarding wheat and sugar crisis were made public on the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general Wajid Zia lead a commission that carried out the investigation and submitted the report to the prime minister upon completion for perusal. The prime minister went through the report and directed the federal government that it should be made public.

The report reveals PTI stalwart Jahangir Khan Tareen, a brother of Food Minister Khusro Bakhtiyar, and PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi among the beneficiaries of the crisis. It said the major reason behind the crises was a lack of planning by the federal and provincial governments.
