Netflix’s fantasy drama ‘The Sandman’ is based on stories about how Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is captured and subsequently learns that sometimes change is inevitable.
Across ten+one episodes, there are plenty of twists and turns, mystery, and of course a female version of Lucifer. Inshort, it’s a great winning formula and everyone who enjoys the first season will no doubt be wondering about the potential of a second. So will there be another season?
The Sandman
The Sandman was developed for Netflix by Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg and is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
Plot
The series tells the story of Morpheus–the personification of dreams and one of The Seven Endless– who is captured in a 1916 occult ritual. After being held captive for 106 years, Dream escapes and sets out to restore order to The Dreaming realm. The series stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, alongside Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles.
Positive reviews
The Sandman’s premiere on August 5th, the series received mostly positive reviews from critics who praised the casting, production design, costumes, faithfulness to its source material, and visual effects. The performances by Tom Sturridge and David Thewlis were also applauded.
Is there season 2?
This hype surrounding The Sandman is great news for Netflix as the online streaming platform several weeks ago announced that the service had lost 1.3 million subscribers across the US and Canada in just three months.
While the show only appeared on the service on August 5th, a press release notes that it’s so far amassed a total watch time of “196.98 million hours,” making it the most popular English-language series since its release.
Still, there’s still no confirmation for season 2 but it performed well critically, among fans, and spent a respectable full week on top of the top 10 list for its debut season.
