The release of Fawad Khan starrer ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’, which was set to hit the theatres in India today, has been postponed indefinitely.
The Bilal Lashari directional movie, which was released in Pakistan on October 13, was set to hit the theatres in India on Friday. According to Indian media, no further date has been locked for the movie’s release date for Indian theatres.
The last Pakistani film to get a theatrical release in India was ‘Bol’ starring Mahira Khan in 2011. Before that was ‘Ramchand Pakistani’ in 2008. ‘Khuda Kay Liye’ featuring Fawad Khan alongside Naseeruddin Shah, came in 2007.
‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ is an adaptation of 1979 cult classic ‘Maula Jatt’. It has become the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time amassing $10 million.

Earlier this month, Indian cinema announced that the movie will be released in some parts of India. However, just after the announcement of its release, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Hindu extremist Raj Thackeray, warned cinema hall owners against the screening of the Pakistani film.
MNS also sent out letters to the various cinema establishments, including Zee Studios, Movietime Cinema, August Entertainment, and Tilak Entertainment, stating their vehement opposition to the proposed release.
