ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the government to recover missing Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad by Friday. This directive was issued by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani during a hearing on the petition seeking the poet’s recovery.
Farhad, known for his anti-establishment stance, was allegedly abducted from his home last week. His wife filed a petition with the IHC on May 15, requesting the court to identify, investigate, and prosecute those responsible for his disappearance. Human rights lawyer Iman Mazari represented her in the case.
On Monday, Justice Kayani emphasized that intelligence agencies need to dispel the perception of their involvement in forced abductions. He ordered Senior Superintendent of Police Jameel Zafar to ensure Farhad’s recovery, warning that failure to do so would result in summoning the defence secretary. A notice has been issued to the defence secretary for the next hearing.
Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan assured the court of Farhad’s rescue and recovery, stating, “We will do whatever it takes. We will rescue and recover Farhad.”
