Rawalpindi: Clash at Barani University leaves 4 injured, 3 arrested

In Rawalpindi, a clash between two student groups at Barani University resulted in four students being injured and three others being arrested.

Sources indicate that the altercation stemmed from ongoing tensions between the rival groups within the university. Following the incident, local police arrived at the university premises and arrested three students. The injured students were transported to a nearby hospital, and police have initiated an investigation with the arrested individuals.

Earlier, in October 2024, a similar clash occurred at the boys’ hostel of Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad, where over 26 students were injured due to a conflict between two rival groups.

According to police reports, several students sustained injuries during the clash, with one student in critical condition. During the fight, one group set fire to a room in the hostel and caused damage to various items within the hostel.

On the other hand, the increasing influence of politics in universities and colleges across the country has severely disrupted the academic environment. Rival student groups, often affiliated with larger political parties, engage in frequent clashes, creating an atmosphere of fear and hostility.

These conflicts not only result in physical injuries but also affect the mental well-being of students, forcing many to focus on survival rather than education. Classrooms are empty during strikes, examinations are delayed, and promising academic careers are derailed due to these tensions.
