Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri has said that Pakistan’s pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi needed support to control the pressure of being the leader of the side’s pace attack.
“The problem for Shaheen is the pressure of being the spearhead of the Pakistan attack & without much support at the other end when it comes to pace,” he said as Pakistan faced Australia on their home ground.
The Australians put a huge total on the scoreboard, and the Shan Masood-led team found it difficult to stop them. It was observed that the guests lacked quickness and made careless fielding errors.
Pakistan is not regarded as one of the top fielding teams in the world of cricket, despite their reputation for pace. Experts have consistently noted the team’s shortcomings in this area while asserting that “catches win you matches.”
In the first innings of the Perth Test, Australia amassed a massive 487 runs, with Pakistan failing to take wickets. Pakistan used two inexperienced pacers and three fast bowlers.
“You don’t have one bowler who is even close to 140kph so that puts immense pressure on someone like Shaheen,” Shastri said.
