The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allocated over Rs1.2 million in its annual budget to address the growing rat infestation in the Parliament House. This problem has caused significant damage, including the destruction of several office files by the rats.
The budget will fund the introduction of hunting cats, known for their rat-catching abilities, to help control the rat population. Moreover, special mesh traps will be set up, as sources have indicated that the infestation might be linked to problems with the building’s ceilings.
The CDA is also considering partnering with private sector companies to enhance the eradication efforts. A spokesperson for the National Assembly confirmed the CDA’s commitment to resolving the rat issue, highlighting the urgency of the situation to maintain the Parliament House’s operational efficiency.
The use of hunting cats represents an innovative and eco-friendly approach to pest control, aiming to manage the rat problem without relying on chemical solutions.
