Rangers’ special powers extended in Karachi for 90 days

KARACHI: On the request of the Sindh government, the Interior Ministry has extended the special powers of Sindh Rangers in Karachi for 90 days.

In this regard, the Interior Ministry issued the notification of extension today (Monday). The notification also said that the matter of extension of Rangers was decided amicably with mutual coordination.

“The special policing powers were extended by the federal interior ministry under Section 4(3)(i) of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 in order for the force to help maintain law and order in the metropolis,” the notification read.

According to the notification, the force will now continue its duties and responsibilities in the metropolis city until the end of August 2020.

Earlier on April 29, Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab informed that almost 49 personnel of province police and Rangers have contracted the coronavirus while performing their duties.

He further said, “Almost 25 personnel of Police and 4 officials of Rangers have contracted with coronavirus.” He also urged the people to act responsibly and take precautionary measures.
