LAHORE: Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal committee has confirmed the sighting of the Ramadan 2024 moon, marking the start of the fasting month from Tuesday, March 12.
Following a conference of clerics from various schools of thought to determine the start of the ninth Islamic month, Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad made the formal pronouncement.
Azad stated that testimonies regarding the moon’s sighting had been received from various regions across the country, encompassing Peshawar, Lahore, Swat, Sargodha, and other locales.
“Therefore, it was unanimously decided that Ramadan will commence on March 12,” he announced.
He extended congratulations to the people and the Muslim community on the advent of the sacred month.
Earlier, he had informed that the sun would set around 6:20 pm on the same day, following which committee members nationwide would endeavor to sight the Ramadan moon. Azad underscored that similar meetings of zonal committees in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad would convene at their respective headquarters to determine the moon-sighting for Ramadan, 1445 AH. He appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant in moon sighting, expressing optimism for a harmonious day of fasting across the country.
