As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, Muslims worldwide are preparing for its observance in 2025.
According to the Meteorological Department’s latest prediction regarding the moon sighting, Ramadan is expected to begin on March 2, though the exact start date will be confirmed based on the sighting of the crescent moon, a significant tradition in the Islamic faith.
The department notes that the Ramadan crescent is unlikely to be visible on February 28 (29th Sha’ban). The new moon will be born on February 28 at 5:45 PM, but its age at sunset on 29th Sha’ban will be only 13 hours and 12 minutes.
For the crescent to be visible, it must be at least 19 hours old. Moreover, the Met Office forecasts partly cloudy to clear skies in different parts of the country on the evening of February 29, which may further affect the chances of moon sighting.
Eid ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of Ramadan, is anticipated to fall on either March 31 or April 1, depending again on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time dedicated to fasting, prayer, and charitable acts.
Fasting hours
On the first day of Ramadan in Karachi, the fasting duration will be approximately 13 hours. By the last day, it will stretch a bit longer, close to 13 hours and 40 minutes. The duration slightly increases each day as the month progresses.

Expected weather conditions
During Ramadan 2025, Karachi is expected to experience a range of weather conditions. The early days of Ramadan will likely bring relatively pleasant weather, with daytime temperatures being warm but not excessively hot. Nights will be more comfortable due to sea breezes.
However, as the month progresses, particularly from March 20 onward, the intensity of heat is expected to increase. The last 10 days of Ramadan are forecasted to be hotter, with daytime temperatures rising significantly.
Office hours
During Ramadan 2025, it is anticipated that federal government offices will reduce their working hours by two to three hours. For offices operating five days a week, the new timings are expected to be from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. For those open six days a week, the hours will likely be from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
On Fridays, federal government offices are expected to operate from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
