The Meteorological Department has forecast the arrival of two separate rain systems in Karachi, which could affect the city during the early days of Muharram and around or just after Ashura.
According to department spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the first rain system will begin to impact Karachi from Friday, with an expected increase in rainfall intensity on Saturday and Sunday.
The spokesperson stated that during these days, various parts of the city may experience light to heavy rainfall, which will make the weather pleasant but could also cause some inconvenience to residents.
On Wednesday morning, light drizzling in several areas of Karachi made the weather pleasant. According to the Meteorological Department, drizzle was observed in Lyari, Mauripur Road, Clifton, and nearby areas, and this pattern is expected to continue intermittently throughout the day.
In its issued statement, the department said that the weather will remain partly cloudy over the next 24 hours, with strong winds expected from the west. The maximum temperature may reach up to 36°C, while the current temperature recorded in the city is 30°C.
The Meteorological Department further stated that the heat index may feel like 36°C to residents, and westerly winds are currently blowing at a speed of 19 km/h, which, combined with humidity, is contributing to the increased feeling of heat.
These two rain systems during Muharram and Ashura are expected to not only affect the weather conditions but may also potentially impact processions and other religious activities.
Citizens have been advised to stay updated on the weather situation and take necessary precautions, especially those residing in low-lying areas who are urged to remain alert.
